Murray, Nedderman, Johnson and Dacus give UTA more selections on All-SLC Academic team than any other school in the conference.

ARLINGTON, Texas - - Three members of UT-Arlington's volleyball team earned spots on the Southland Conference All-Academic First Team, while another became a Second-Team, All-Conference pick, the league announced Friday.

Coaches and sports information directors voted senior middle blocker Ellen Murray, senior setter Emily Nedderman and senior libero Dani Johnson onto the All-SLC squad for the second consecutive year -all are First-Team, All-SLC picks. Stephen F. Austin is the only other team in the conference to have three first-team selections.

UTA senior outside hitter Torie Dacus earned a spot on the All-SLC, Second-Team.

By excelling on the court and in the classroom, Dacus earned a spot on the team for the first time - and her selection gives UTA four players with All-SLC academic honors.

No other school in the conference had more than three.

Nedderman is a political science major from Grapevine, Texas, who has posted a cumulative 3.65 grade-point average. On the court, she started in all 30 of UTA's matches while finishing fifth in the SLC with 10.43 assists per game. She was also 10th in the conference with 1.01 blocks per game. Nedderman finished her UTA career with 3,489 assists, good enough for sixth all-time at the school.

Murray, a senior from Arlington, Texas, earned a spot on the team because of a 3.5 cumulative GPA in addition to being among the conference leaders in two categories. A kinesiology major, she averaged 1.86 kills per game and finished fifth in the conference with a .296 attack percentage. Her 1.28 blocks per game was third in the SLC.

A Southlake, Texas, native and interdisciplinary studies major at UTA, Johnson posted a 3.46 GPA in the classroom. She finished the year by averaging 4.95 digs per game, good enough for fourth in the conference. Johnson finished her career with 1,466 digs - sixth all-time at UTA.

Dacus, a kinesiology major from Ovilla, Texas, finishes her UTA career as a two-time, All-SLC pick as well as an All-SLC academic selection. In addition to her 3.1 GPA, Dacus averaged 2.74 kills, 3.67 digs and 0.73 bocks per game. She also had a .282 hitting percentage. Dacus led UTA with 15 double-doubles, including a 17-kill, 30-dig performance in the final regular-season match on the road against Sam Houston. She was ninth in the SLC with an attack percentage of .282. In 2007, Dacus had 299 kills and 400 digs.
