ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington softball team's single game with North Texas scheduled for Wednesday has been changed to a doubleheader on the same day, but with a 5 p.m. start time for the first game. This will be the 30th meeting between the Mavericks and Mean Green.
UTA is 11-13 on the season and led by sophomore Cara Hulme offensively and defensively. Hulme leads the offense with a .382 batting average. She is supported by fellow sophomore Brittany Washington, who has a team-leading 7 home runs, 4 doubles, 16 runs and 15 RBI on the season.
Hulme (6-3) also leads the Mavs in the circle with a 1.34 ERA recording four shutouts on the season. She has only given up 19 runs in 62.2 innings of work while striking out 84 opposing batters.
Senior Laura Jones (3-8) is the Mavs second pitcher with a 1.36 ERA. Jones has only given up 12 earned runs in 61.2 innings of work, while holding opponents to a .220 batting average.
North Texas is led by freshman Mallory Cantler with a .375 batting average, 10 doubles and 25 RBI on the season. Freshman Mariza Martinez and sophomore Rebecca Waters both share the home run lead with six a piece.
Senior Kristina Fowler (4-6) has a 2.03 ERA for the season, while sophomore Kayla Lawson is the only Mean Green pitcher with a winning record at 6-5 has the highest ERA at 4.15.
UTA will return to Southland Conference action this weekend when it heads to Huntsville for a three-game series with Sam Houston State. The Mavs and Bearkats will begin the series with the first pitch of the doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday and conclude with a single game at noon on Sunday.
