After setting a new school tournament record in his last outing at the Turtle Bay invitational, UT Arlington senior men's golfer, Zack Reeves, was named the Southland Conference Golfer of the Month for November today.
Reeves joins sophomore Michael van de Venter who was named the conference golfer of the month for October.
Reeves averaged 68.2 per round during the month of November. He set a new school record for a 54-hole tournament with a 15-under-par 201 (65-71-65) to tie for third place at the Turtle Bay Intercollegiate. He tied for fifth at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate with a three-round total of 208 (70-69-69). He has five sub-70 rounds this fall, which ties a school record for an entire fall/spring season.
As a team, UTA finished second at the Herb Wimberly and third at Turtle Bay with a school-record 41-under-par 823, including a school-record 18-under-par 270 during the opening round.
van de Venter averaged 71.22 and posted two top five and three, top-20 finishes during October.
He helped UTA to its first top-20 ranking in program history and also helped the squad break the school's 54-hole scoring record by 16 shots at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate on October 30. He tied for second at UT Arlington Fall Classic with two-under-par 212 at Waterchase GC. For the year, van de Venter has four top-20 finishes, including two in the top five. He is on pace to break sophomore scoring record at UTA with 72.14 average through five tournaments this season.
UT Arlington, ranked 38th in this week's golfstat.com Division I poll, will return to play on Feb. 19, 2008, at the Rio Pinar Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
