Zack Reeves stands in 12th place after Day 2 of the SLC Golf Championships

MAVERICKS GOLF TEAM REMAINS IN FIFTH ON DAY 2 OF CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT

Third and final round scheduled for today; Carrigan tied for 10th individually to lead Mavs.

LAKE CHARLES, La. - - The UT Arlington men's golf team dropped to fifth in the second round of the Southland Conference Golf Championships held Tuesday at Gray Plantation in Lake Charles, La.

The third and final round is scheduled for Wednesday, and the Mavericks have their work cut out for them to climb in the standings and close the gap against defending champion and current leader Lamar. UTA shot a 299 on Day 2, giving it a 25-over-par 302-299--601. The Mavericks are 25 strokes behind the Cardinals, who shot an impressive 10-under-par 278 on Tuesday. The Cardinals now have four golfers in the Top 12.

UTA is led by junior transfer Kevin Carrigan, who stands in a tie for 10th place after shooting even-par 72 on the second day. Carrigan charged forward Tuesday with birdies on hole No. 7, No. 9 and No. 10 to reach 2-under before a bogey on No. 15 left him even. Zack Reeves stands in a tie for 12th place after shooting a 4-over-par 76. Reeves has a 72-76--148 and is five strokes behind individual leader Sigmundur Masson of McNeese State.

Bobby Massa is tied for 20th with a 6-over-par 76-74--150. Michael Van deVenter is tied for 37th with an 80-77--157, and Zack Fischer is tied for 45th with a 79-81--160.
